Important Safety Notice

Work on the Riverton School Renovation Project will officially begin on
March 26, 2006 with the arrival of Summit Engineering's Geo-tech consultant and RE Colman's backhoe to take soil samples as a first step to the foundations for our new additions.

Construction update

* The modular building has been removed. The small playground has been dismantled.
* Exterior safety perimeters have been installed at both ends of the building. All students and visitors to the building must enter through the main entrance or Library entrance on the south face of the building. The bus loop is off limits to all parking to allow the free movement of construction vehicles.
* Work is wrapping up on the heating and ventilation ducts in Pods 1, 2, 4, and 5
* Work has begun on the new family locker room. When complete, this lockerroom will be accessed from the corridor and lead to the swimming pool. It is designed as a changing area to be used when a parent brings a child of the opposite gender to the pool. The corridor near the pool will be blocked off until about October 1.
* Student Support Services staff (Nancy Jones, Christine Leach, Rosemary Mason and Judy Smith are now co-located in the former offices of the Riverton Health Station
* Excavation for the Recreation Department wing is expected to begin the week of 8/28. The classroom wing start date is 10/1.
Factoid: Riverton School and Community Center is now 1/5 mile long. When construction is done it will be 1/4 mile long.

October 6th

Construction Update: The slabs were poured for the Recreation Wing on 10/5 and will be poured for the classroom wing next week. Structural steel is being fabricated. Below-ground piers will soon be poured to support the new canopy over the main entrance.

October 20th

The cement slabs have been poured and structural steel in now being erected. This is a very exciting phase because our new additions “take shape”. Work on the new family locker room is nearing completion. Soon the hallway near the pool will be returned to its original state. Those of you who have been by the school may have noticed a big hubbub of work near the main entrance. Pre-cast support piers will be sunk into the ground before the frost arrives. Their exact location will be measured and then our new entrance canopy will be built off site and installed at a later date.
