For those of you who don't know me, my name is Nancy diPretoro.  I am a Registered Nurse and am the school nurse here at Riverton.  This is my new web page and I hope you will find it helpful. I welcome you to contact me anytime with any questions or concerns about your child.  My job is to work with you and  the wonderful staff here to provide for your child's health and safety while here at school.

We are about a month into the school year and I wanted to let you know about some things that are coming up-

Tuesday, Nov. 3rd we are having a flu shot clinic for students .  You will be receiving a letter and permission form along with other information within the next week or two. The forms will also be available for you to print.

Nov. 16,17, and 18 (Mon,Tues,Wed),  we will be doing the annual vision and hearing screenings for Pre-K, K,1,3,and 5 students.  Your student will bring home a paper for you if there is any problem detected.  Please contact me with any concerns or questions about this screening.

I am very excited to be able to put important information on the web site for you!  Please take a look at it regualrly to read important health information and upcoming health related activities!  Please note:  You can access the translate button in the toolbar to your preferred language as well.

Happy New Year and I hope that 2016 finds you and your family healthy and ready to return to the routine of school at Riverton.  Winter is a time where we spend a lot more time indoors so colds and other illnesses are a bit more common this time of year.  Here are some guidelines to follow to know when you should keep your child at home:

-If your child has a temperature of 100 or more.  They need to be fever free for 24 hours without the use of any medication before returning to school

-If your child has vomited within the past 12 hours or does not want to eat or drink anything.

-If your child complains AND seems unwell to you.

It is helpful to contact me if you have any concerns about how your child might be feeling while at school.  I welcome your calls at anytime.

Please be sure your child dresses appropriately for the cold winter weather as they go out for recess on most days, or may be waiting for the bus or walking to school.  We have extra winter gear if they need it.  We don't want anyone to go without warm outerwear for our cold Maine winters!

The Essilor Program will be at Riverton on January 21st for students who need glasses to pick out frames.  if you received paperwork from the nurse regarding your child's vision screening, information about this and an application was included.  In order to provide student's with free glasses through this program, parents will need to obtain a vision exam, provide a copy of the prescription with the completed application form before January 21st.  Good vision is very important for learning!  Please call me with any questions about this.

Stay safe and warm this winter!

Nurse Nancy
